Machu Picchu Tour Package
DAY 1: ARRIVING TO CUSCO
Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. There you will receive a short briefing and then have the rest of the morning for resting and acclimatizing. In the afternoon, you will have time to explore Cusco on your own, enjoying the sights of the capital city of the Incas at your leisure. At night you will experience Cusco’s nightlife and sample some of its cuisine at the many traditional Peruvian restaurants and its international selections.
- 3* Accommodation: Maytaq Wasin or Waman Qorikancha
- Recommendations: We highly recommend walking around the main plaza and visiting San Pedro Market in the afternoon or evening.
Day 2: CUSCO – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO
After breakfast, we will pick you up from your hotel at 7:30am. This is a full-day excursion through the Sacred Valley! Your driver will carry your luggage from your hotel lobby to the van. On the way to Pisac, we stop briefly at the Mirador of Taray to enjoy a classic view of the Sacred Valley. Laid out at your feet is the beginning of the Sacred Valley with crops decorating the valley floor in a patchwork quilt. Onward, we drive to the archeological site of Pisac, where you will see the biggest Inca cemetery in the Sacred Valley, with more than 2,000 tombs. There, we can admire the incredible farming terraces carved into the mountain, explore the Inca tunnel and the religious area of this important citadel.
After the ruins, we visit the colorful artisanal market in Pisac. You will have plenty of opportunities to test your bartering skills, interact with the local artisans and purchase their hand-made souvenirs. If you don’t feel like shopping, walk through the narrow, pedestrian streets which still have the ancient Inca canals.
Leaving Pisac, next we travel to Urubamba. Once we arrive you will have a variety of restaurants to choose from for your lunch, just tell your guide what you are in the mood for! (Lunch is not included in the price). We continue on towards Ollantaytambo, the oldest continuously occupied town in South America. The narrow streets of Ollantaytambo, along with their canals, have not changed much from the time of the Inca Empire. They evoke their ancestral inheritance and give you a feeling of what living in Ollantaytambo would have been like 500 years ago. We explore the archeological site for an hour and admire the water fountains, the Sun Temple, the Incahuatana and the carefully engineered storehouses.
Then we heard to Veronica View Hotel, a scenic 10 minute drive from Ollantaytambo.
- Accommodation: Veronica View Hotel
- Meal included: Breakfast
Day 3: OLLANTAYTAMBO – MARAS – MORAY & SALT MINES – AGUAS CALIENTES
We pick you up in our private van from the Veronica View Hotel at 8am and drive you to the stunning Inca site of Moray also known as “The Greenhouse of the Incas.” Different levels of terraces are carved into a huge circular bowl, a part of which was further excavated by the Incas. The terraces have varied microclimates depending on how deep the terrace runs into the basin. They were thought to have been used by the Incas to experiment with hybridization and to discover the optimal growing conditions for their crops.
After , we continue driving towards the colonial town of Maras and to the Pre-Inca Salt Mine (Salineras). Thousands of saltpans have been used for salt extraction since before Inca times. A hot spring at the top of the valley discharges a small stream of heavily salt-laden water, which is diverted into saltpans and evaporated to produce a high quality salt. This is one of the few places in the world where you can find naturally pink salt!
Then, we will take the afternoon Vistadome train to Aguas Calientes from Ollantaytambo at 13:27pm, where we spend the night in a hotel.
- 3* Accommodation: Ferre´ Hotel Machu Picchu
